Our wake up call was at 7 and it was 79 degrees with 89 percent humidity under cloudy skies and 15 knot winds. We had coffee on the verandah as we docked and breakfast in the room. Our tour was at 9:15 so we dressed and went to the aft deck at 8:30. At 9:05, we boarded the bus and drove along some beaches and through an upscale neighborhood where the walls were topped with electric fences and past a hill overlooking a slum area dwarfed by high-rise apartments and offices. We drove by the poet Ceara's memorial which hangs out over a pool of water. We then visited the neo-Classical cathedral which was very beautiful. We were followed everywhere by a tourist police car. We stopped at the 4 story central market where Glenda bought some pants. The next stop was the Jose de Alencar Theater where the ceiling was painted by a man with no hands or feet. At one stop, our tourist police car apparently caught fire as we saw them spraying the motor with a fire extinguisher. We got back to the ship at 1:30 and went to the aft deck for the sail away from 2:30 to 3:30 before going to bingo. At bingo, Don won games 1 and 2 for a total of $65 and Glenda won game 4 for $74. She thought that it was about time! The dinner menu didn't excite us, so we had cheeseburgers and fries at 5. We then cleaned up and dressed for the evening and went to the Crow's Nest where we talked with Don, Ron & Dave, Kris, Barbie and Peter until 10:15 when we went to the casino. I made my contribution in about 30 minutes, watched Glenda for a bit and then went to the cabin. She managed to play for over and hour and a half on $10.
